Make Your Own Cardboard Castle {Recycling}
When we went to visit my sister for Thanksgiving, my son played for hours with a cardboard castle that my nephew had built. I promised him that we'd make our own. And he didn't forget my promise. I procrastinated for a while because we didn't have enough boxes saved, but when they starting flowing from their corner in the dining room to other parts of the house I knew it was time to quit stalling and just make it.
Easy Dress Up Hats {Paper Plate Craft}
We checked out a cute book from the library called Halloween Hats
. In rhyming text the book describes all the types of hats you might see on Halloween. The neighborhood kids (with their hats, of course) gather at the same party where they play a fun game that involves switching hats and celebrating their now mixed-up costumes.
10 Extension Activities for Spoon: October VBC
It's virtual book club day when we get to share our Amy Krouse Rosenthal book activities!
Though we read several of her books this month, we chose Spoon
for our activity. Spoon thinks his friends have it so much better than he does. He doesn't get to cut and spread like Knife. He doesn't get to go practically everywhere like Fork, and he's not cool and exotic like Chopsticks. Then he finds out that his friends think Spoon is the lucky one. He gets to be silly and bang on a pot, unlike Knife who is always handled so seriously. Fork wishes he could measure things like Spoon. There's lots of lessons in this humorous book - be happy with what you have, accept yourself and your own unique gifts, the grass is always greener, etc.
This is such a fun book that it's easy to think of extension activities for it, so I came up with a list of 10.

Magic Beans
The most amazing thing happened the other day. We were reading our copy of Jack & the Beanstalk
when I suddenly remembered seeing a packet of magic beans in our junk drawer.
Grouchy Ladybug Clocks & Eric Carle Link Party
It's Eric Carle's birthday and time to link up all your Eric Carle projects! The book we chose was The Grouchy Ladybug
.
The Grouchy Ladybug argues over aphids for breakfast with a friendly ladybug. The Grouchy Ladybug wants to fight, but backs down and says he wants to fight somebody bigger. The animals he encounters get larger and larger, but the Grouchy Ladybug continues looking for an animal to fight. Eventually he's smacked by a whale's tail and lands right back where he started. Tired, hungry, and wet, the Grouchy Ladybug learns how nice it can be to share. Each page tells (and shows) the time so making clocks for this book was the perfect way to introduce telling time.
