TP Roll Thanksgiving Corn

In Strega Nona's Harvest, Strega Nona helps some children plant a garden of vegetables.  She instructs them carefully in how to plant an orderly garden.  One of the boys decides to plant his own garden using her growing spell, but he doesn't plant his garden in the neat way he has been taught. His garden goes crazy and turns into a vegetable jungle!  Not knowing what else to do with his harvest, he secretly leaves the vegetables outside Strega Nona's door.  She has so much food that she shares her bounty with the whole village. This book has lots of factual information about growing a garden disguised in a fun story.

To go with our book, we did a Thanksgiving corn craft.  This was easy and turned out cute.  We started with toilet paper rolls, small squares of torn paper, and some homemade Mod Podge (glue thinned with water.)
We just started brushing on the glue and sticking the squares to the roll.  To be honest, the two and three year old didn't make it through the entire craft and I ended up finishing it.  But older and more patient crafters could easily do this.
When "we" finished I put some yellow tissue paper in the end for our husks.
Or you could use it as a napkin holder on your Thanksgiving table.  I would probably use cut paper towel rolls so nobody gets squeamish about the loo rolls. :)

We've been doing Harvest themed books and activities all week... somehow I missed this Strega Nona's Harvest book. I love the original Strega Nona so I'll have to give this one a try. By the way, the napkin rings are awesome!

I have already commented, but I was glad to look at these again since it was linked to the Monday Madness party. I haven't stopped thinking about these since I first saw them. I really think they are the cutest idea ever and although I haven't read all the posts on our linky this week I will for sure be highlighting this project. So glad you shared.
