Making Birthday Celebrations Special

Make your child's next birthday party even more special with these easy ideas.

3 ideas to make your next party even more memorable
We recently headed to my sister's house to celebrate the birthdays of my nephews and niece. Both my sister and I try to make our kids' birthday parties memorable and our kids look forward to them for months beforehand. We've been doing this a while now so we've come up with some easy ways to make every celebration a surefire success. Here are three things we always include:

1. A project

This doesn't have to be complicated. We've made art projects related to the party theme, decorated wooden treasure boxes, and painted a picture on a real canvas. This year my sister purchased supplies for each guest to make their own fairy or gnome garden. She provided pots, soil, a small plant, and some fun decorations so each child could create their own arrangement. The kids love them and this is a party favor that won't get broken or thrown away.

2. An activity

In the past we've provided water squirters to cool off, gone on treasure hunts, and blown giant bubbles using a plastic kiddie pool and a hula hoop. The kids enjoy just about anything that gets them moving. Another favorite is pinatas. They're inexpensive and easy to customize to almost any party theme. Plus they love the candy. Speaking of ...

3. Great food

We always have cake (of course), but it's fun to have extra treats in pretty containers as well. My sister served Crunchkins™ and the kids (and adults) loved them. Have you heard of these? They're dessert-flavored poppers with a creamy coating and a light, crunchy center. They come in three flavors in each pack: birthday cake (perfect!), fudge brownie (my favorite), and glazed donut.
