Easy Clothespin Chore Reminders for Kids #getorganized

I wrote this post as part of a paid campaign with Brother and Blueprint Social, but all opinions are my own.

Time to get organized! Brother is helping you get started with a giveaway and I'm sharing some organizing tips including some simple chore reminders for kids that you can make and put in a place where your kids are sure to spot them (like the fridge!)

In an attempt to get my kids to help around the house more, I made chore reminders in the form of clothespins that hang on the refrigerator. They're easy to make so you can switch or add chores as often as you need. They have two sides so I can flip them over when something needs to be done and the kids can flip it back when the chore is finished.

What you need:
  • Wooden clothespins
  • Brother P-Touch Label Maker
  • Magnets - I used magnetic strips
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Washi tape or paint for decorating (optional)
  • Metal rimmed tags
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Star or smiley face stickers

I decorated each of my clothespins with a little washi tape - pink for my daughter and green for my son. You could also use paint.

Next I made labels and stuck them on the clothespins. I chose the font I wanted on my label maker and was even able to set the length of the label before it printed. It was also nice to be able to reprint the label since my kids have the same chores.

I added magnetic strips to the back of each clothespin. I reinforced the adhesive with some hot glue because I think they'll be handled a lot.

I put a sticker on one side of the tag, looped a piece of twine through and clipped it into the clothespin. When they see I've flipped the tag to the blank side they know the chore needs to be done. When they've finished, the kids can flip it over so the star shows.

You could also do this with colored tags or cardstock.

We keep them on the fridge so they're really visible.

Did you know that January is National Get Organized month? I'm no expert at organizing but I do have a few tips that anybody can do:

Find a place for everything - I have a craft closet instead of a craft room. A shoe organizer hanging from the back of the door has made finding and putting away those little odds and ends so much easier.

Reuse - I reuse whatever containers I can. I've been using these old baby wipe containers to hold craft supplies for years now.

Label, label, label - Instead of a rack, I keep my spices in a drawer. Labeling the tops of the spices makes it easy to find what I need quickly.

  1. What a cute way to remind kids to do their chores! I think my oldest would respond really well to this. :)
