Color Game for Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?: Virtual Book Club for Kids

We recently played a color identification game while we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. This simple activity focused on the pattern and repetition of the book and reinforced color identification.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? was one of my son's favorites when he was small and he would ask my husband to read it over and over again. It was fun to revisit it for this month's Virtual Book Club for Kids.

After reading each page, I would ask a question in the same form as the book. "Drew, Drew, what do you see?" and then he would identify something in the room that was the same color as the animal on the page. "I see a green cup looking at me." Sometimes he asked me the question. It was a great way to focus on the pattern and repetition in the book and is a great oral language activity for toddlers and preschoolers. The best part was it requires no preparation or special materials and can be played almost anywhere.

  1. This is really exciting! I started Tot School a few months ago and we started with colors using Brown Bear Brown Bear as our anchor... we are on our last color from the book this week and I'm sad its almost over! So glad I found this site!

  2. I did something similar to this with my son... The simplicity of the language is a great building foundation for toddlers. It's great!
