Valentine's Day Math for Toddlers and Preschoolers

One of the activities I put in my kids' Valentine mailboxes involved M&M's, which they both love.  This was a super simple activity and worked on number recognition and counting.

Make Your Own Cardboard Castle {Recycling}

When we went to visit my sister for Thanksgiving, my son played for hours with a cardboard castle that my nephew had built.  I promised him that we'd make our own.  And he didn't forget my promise.   I procrastinated for a while because we didn't have enough boxes saved, but when they starting flowing from their corner in the dining room to other parts of the house I knew it was time to quit stalling and just make it.

Egg Carton Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore!: Virtual Book Club for Kids

Welcome to January's Virtual Book Club for Kids! This month's author was David McPhail, who was a new author for us.  I'm looking forward to seeing all the David McPhail books and activities you link up.

We chose Pigs Aplenty, Pigs Galore! and my three year old had me read it three times in a row.  It's a silly rhyming story about a man who finds his house full of mischievous pigs.  They pour oatmeal in the kitchen sink and have pizzas delivered.  The man is so mad about the mess they're making that he tries to kick them out.  But the pigs ask to stay so politely that he can't help but give in.

3-D Shape Snowplow (Craft for Boys)

My four year old is fascinated with snow plows, so we regularly check out the book Snowplows: Machines at Work from the library.  It's a short nonfiction book that describes the different parts of a snowplow and how snowplows keep the roads safe in the winter.

Circle Penguin Craft

Do all 3 year olds love scissors?  My daughter uses them any chance she gets and I remember my son being the same way when he was that age.  It's been a while since we've done a craft, so it seemed like a good time to make something that involved lots of scissors practice.  The circles might have been too challenging though, so we finished this craft "together". (She supervised and let me know if the quality of my work fell below her stringent standards.)

Snowy Owls: Guest Post

My sister is here today!

Our family is still feeling under the weather so instead of going to Tae Kwon Do, we stayed at home and found it a perfect time for an art project. I've had my eye on these Snowy Owls for awhile now. I would like to try just about everything on Deep Space Sparkle (doesn't the name alone make you want to paint?)
