Kid's Co-op: 10 Ways to Have Fun with Food

Last week there were some great posts about FOOD!  Playing with it, eating it, creating with it...

Sprinkle Fireworks

This activity couldn't be any easier.  To go along with our 4th of July books we made some pictures of fireworks from ice cream sprinkles and water.

Shake some ice cream sprinkles on white paper.  (I think you need actual ice cream sprinkles and not cake sprinkles.)

Grouchy Ladybug Clocks & Eric Carle Link Party

It's Eric Carle's birthday and time to link up all your Eric Carle projects!  The book we chose was The Grouchy Ladybug.  The Grouchy Ladybug argues over aphids for breakfast with a friendly ladybug.  The Grouchy Ladybug wants to fight, but backs down and says he wants to fight somebody bigger.  The animals he encounters get larger and larger, but the Grouchy Ladybug continues looking for an animal to fight.  Eventually he's smacked by a whale's tail and lands right back where he started.  Tired, hungry, and wet, the Grouchy Ladybug learns how nice it can be to share.  Each page tells (and shows) the time so making clocks for this book was the perfect way to introduce telling time.

Diego Rescue Pack Favor Bags

Making the favor bags for my son's Diego birthday party was really easy and I love how they turned out.

DIY Jungle Vines

I made these jungle vines for my son's Diego jungle birthday party, but I'm also planning on using them for a Jack & the Beanstalk project and they would be great for any party with a jungle theme.

Kid's Co-op: Summer Reading Ideas

Last week there were so many great ideas shared for beating summer boredom or stopping the dreaded summer slide.  I especially liked these ideas for extra reading motivation this summer:

The Iowa Farmer's Wife shared  60 ways to make reading more fun.

Barnyard Tornado in a Jar and Books about Tornadoes

The best part about this activity was that a lot of it was my four year old's idea.

Chalk Learning Targets and Chalk Link Party

The other day I bought my two and four year olds some big spray bottles from Walmart's garden section (they're as entertaining as squirt guns with less need to refill constantly).  Once we got home, the four year old instantly starting torturing his sister.  I started pointing out alternatives to aiming the stream of water at his sister's face like trees and rocks, etc. and then it hit me (an idea, not the water).

I drew some chalk targets on our gate for him to spray off.  I put some letters he knew, some he didn't know, and some shapes so the two year old could play too.

Messy Literacy: Dog's Colorful Day

Dog's Colorful Day: A Messy Story About Colors and Counting is one of those books that just begs for an activity to go with it.  Dog is a white dog with a black spot on his ear.  Throughout his messy day more colorful spots are added.  First he has some red jam dropped on him at breakfast, resulting in a red dot.  Next, he gets a splatter of blue paint. This continues until he has 10 spots of 10 different colors.  At the end of the day, he gets a bath.

Curious George Ice Cream & DIY Edible Eyes

We recently ordered Curious George Goes to an Ice Cream Shop from my son's book club at school.  Curious George visits the new ice cream shop in town.  Of course, his curiosity gets him in trouble when he starts making his own ice cream creations.  Fortunately, he also brings in lots of new business for the place!  We read this book six times in a row!

(Curious George and the Ice Cream Surprise would also be a great book to go along with this treat!)

Kid's Co-op: Fun with ABCs

So many great ideas last week and I loved all the alphabet play!

Timeless Adventures used a net to go fishing for the alphabet!
Crayon Freckles shared their letter drive thru!
Learn with Play @ home mixed up some alphabet goo.
Also, for extra motivation to read this summer, Ready. Set. Read! has some great suggestions for incorporating books into your summer activities and Adventures in Reading with Kids has a fun way to keep track of all those books.  If you missed the Summer Virtual Book Club announcement, be sure to check that out too!

I've pinned these to the Kid's Co-op Pinterest Board (and you can find a featured button on my buttons page if you'd like one.)

Thanks so much to everybody who linked up last week.  Can't wait to see what you've got this week!

Bird Feeder from a Milk Jug

Purple Little Bird works hard to make sure everything in her very purple home is perfect, but something is just not right.  She heads off in search of a better place and visits friends like the grey goat (his spot is too windy) and the yellow camel (too dry).  Eventually she comes to three pink possums who lead her to the perfect spot - her purple house!  But now that the purple bird has seen all of the other gorgeous colors there are, she sets out to make her home really perfect by adding them to her previously purple house.

Drew really wanted to make a bird feeder.  We found one made from a milk jug at Wholesale Bird Feeders blog and changed it a little.

A to Z Summer Bucket List

My sister is here today!:

We did a summer list in 2010 and I thought it would be fun to write a summer list in alphabetical order this year since the littles are working on recognizing their ABC's.
