Matthew's Monsters Review

I received a copy of Matthew's Monsters by Stephanie Sisler.  She's a teacher who has written a book about Matthew who imagines all the monsters in his room at night. Luckily, it turns out there is something else in his room. Interspersed in the story are comprehension questions.  They are all literal questions, mostly involving the color of items in the book.  We didn't answer every question in the book, but I found this useful for encouraging Drew to look back in the text and also to use picture clues to answer the questions.  There are also opportunities to finish the illustrations in the book.

After we read the book, we did an extension activity with some play dough.  I originally saw this idea at I Can Teach My Child . I set out google eyes, colored craft sticks, and pieces of foam and we created some fun monsters.

*I received a copy of the book (and a Matthew's Monsters t-shirt) in exchange for an honest review.
