Leonardo the Monster Collages

We've been reading lots of Mo Willems books this month in anticipation of the Summer Virtual Book Club Link-up on Monday.  I'm sharing this craft now because it's so easy and there's no wrong way to do it, so it's perfect for preschoolers.

Leonardo, the Terrible Monster can't scare anybody!  He decides to choose his next victim carefully and picks Sam, who is the biggest scaredy cat in the world.  When Leonardo scares Sam, he begins to cry (much to Leonardo's delight).  Unfortunately, Sam is just having a hard time and Leonardo decides maybe he'd make a better friend than scary monster.

We went old school and made our own scary monsters collages from magazine pictures.  We started by cutting shapes from construction paper and gluing them down.  These were our monster bodies.
Then we went through magazines and added eyes and mouths and legs.
Lainey wanted a red monster with lots and lots and lots of eyes.  Drew wanted his monster to have a tail.

Are you scared??

Don't forget to come back Monday and see another Mo Willems activity and to link up your own Mo Willems projects!

  5. Very scary! I actually haven't read this Mo Willems book but I love how the cover says, "Your Pal Mo Willems Presents". lol. That dude is quirky. (is that appropriate to say about a famous author?)
