This is not the post for you if every kid's project you've ever planned has gone off without a hitch. Don't read this if you've never found yourself doing 20 minutes of clean up after a mere 5 minutes of playing/creating. Or if you've never had to admit that the kids' idea was way better and waaaay more fun than your original plan. Just go ahead and close this tab if you've never, ever, (not even once) "improved" on your child's art work just a little.
Still reading? Oh good. You know what I'm talking about. You plan this beautiful, fun,
educational activity and your kids
turn their noses up at it. Or dare to make a finished project that DOESN'T MATCH THE ONE YOU HAD IN YOUR HEAD when you planned this whole stupid thing!
Luckily, it's easy to have a sense of humor about kid's crafts. For the next three Saturdays, I'll be featuring some failures and flops. Because it feels good to know that it happens to everybody. And also because sometimes they are just plain
funny.

Mommy with Selective Memory. If I try to get something done in another room while Lainey is playing with her
rainbow rice, I'll inevitably hear the sound of rice raining down on the floor. Then the conversation goes like this: "Are you throwing the rice?" "No." "It sounds like you are. Please don't throw the rice." "Okay. I won't.", immediately followed by the sound of more rice hitting the floor.

OMGosh! This post is hilarious. Now I wish I'd kept the recent activity (um ... I mean flop) I did with my son. We tried to build a Roman arch with jumbo marshmallows. Sounds cool, right?! Um, except that even with peanut butter as mortar, it wouldn't hold together enough for us to get the "keystone" in. My son still learned something but it was a giant mess with peanut butter everywhere. Good thing the marshmallows tasted delicious!

That last one reminded me of the one and only time we did a sensory bin. I then spent 2 hours cleaning up said bin they'd gotten into.
