Worm Sock Puppets

(This was originally a guest post I did for Happy Hour Projects in November.)

With a 2 and 3 year old, I often make props to use for retelling favorite picture books.  Today I want to share some fun and easy worm sock puppets to go with the book Diary of a Worm.  The book takes you through a worm's day. He plays with his friend Spider, does the Hokey Pokey (they can only put their heads in), and tells his sister that no matter how long she looks in the mirror her face will always look like her rear end.  My husband and I like it almost as much as my kids.

To make the puppet, I started with some socks, some foam sheets, some google eyes (all from the dollar store), and a glue gun.  Pipe cleaners are optional.
I tucked the toe end of my sock in a little:
I cut a circle from foam a foam sheet (I'm sure cardstock would also work).  I folded it in half and hot glued it into the indent on the sock to form the mouth.
Next, I glued on some google eyes and we were ready to act out the story!
I couldn't resist some pipe cleaner lashes on the girl worm.

I considered a pipe cleaner mustache for the boy worm but he got a tongue instead.
