One of our long time favorites around here is
Touch and Learn Tractors & Trucks . Drew loves trucks and tractors and this book is FULL of trucks and tractors. There's no real storyline. It's a collection of pictures with descriptive captions and questions you can ask each other like, "Which tractor do you like best?" "Which truck has the most wheels?" There's counting and color practice in it too. Our favorite part is that on each page there is one picture with something to touch like rough sand or a bumpy wheel.

After reading it again today, I thought Drew might like to make his own touch and learn truck. I found a dump truck
printable coloring page and printed two copies (in case Lainey wanted to make one too, but it turned out she was napping while we did this activity). Then I cut some wheels out of corrugated cardboard with one layer peeled off. I cut a rectangle of tinfoil for the grill and some sandpaper for the dirt in the back of the truck.
He really liked gluing the parts onto the truck.
In fact, he didn't want to stop! We ended up using Lainey's pieces and cutting a few more.

My son is on my lap looking at this post with me and really wants to make this craft, too. His exact words, "Whoa, Mommy can I make one of those? Who made that?"

Great idea, totally going on my to-do list. :-)

ReplyDeleteLove This! You could even make a whole book with a simple repetitive text like "I see a dump truck. I see a tanker truck." etc. Could be great for early readers who love vehicles!
ReplyDeleteI don't blame him. This activity looks like lots of fun!
ReplyDeleteMy son would get a kick out of this craft - he is not usually the crafty type! We are starting a collection of books and activities on our blog and this is exactly what we are looking for. We would love to have you link this and any other book and activity post up as well. The link will be open year long!http://theeducatorsspinonit.blogspot.com/p/love-books.html
ReplyDeleteMy boys don't generally like crafts unless it's painting, but my 2 year old truck lover just might enjoy something like this! So much fun!
