Owl Howlers

Owl Howl is a really cute story about a little owl who is crying in the forest.  Lots of animals stop to try to comfort him. A crow offers to play, a squirrel offers a nut, and the beetle tries rocking her in a cobweb, but she just keeps howling.  Finally, the baby owl flies to her Mommy and when Mommy Owl asks what's wrong all the forest animals stop to hear what all the commotion was about.  I'm not going to tell you what she says because it's a cute ending and perfect for preschoolers.

My own little owls don't need any help in the howling department but just for fun I made them some owl megaphones.  I took a paper cup and cut out the bottom.  I didn't use plastic because of the edges.  Stryrofoam would also work.

Then I glued on some construction paper shapes to make the little owls.  I put a piece of clear packing tape over the top because the glue wasn't sticking well.  Then we were ready to howl right along with the little owl.  I gave them the megaphones before we read the story and we would stop every time the owl in the story howled and they would cry and carry on pitifully through their megaphones.  We had lots of fun with this one!
