Mooseltoe

I never know how Drew is going to react to activities, but when I showed him this simple puzzle I made he said, "Thank you, Mom!!  Is this a present for my birthday???" (His birthday is about six months away.)
He made me proud when he said, "I think I'll start with the D."  Okay, fine, it's the only letter he knows really well so far but it still made me proud.  :)
We did this project to go along with Mooseltoe by Margie Palatini.  It's a humorous book about Moose's Christmas preparations.  He shops, he wraps, he bakes, he sends cards, he decorates - he's forgotten nothing!  Except the Christmas tree.  The moose kids end up decorating him instead.  Our original advent activity for this book was to decorate our own Christmas tree, but we already got that done!

If you have older readers, they might like the Christmas Tree Word Sort.

We're not done with our twelve days of Christmas yet!  Head on over to Ready. Set. Read!
You can check out all of the projects on Jackie's pinboard here.

  1. Ok, I really like this idea. My son loves Christmas trees (and stars) and he's practicing his letters. I'm not sure if he's old enough to match the letters, but I'm going to try it and see! {New follower - I'm loving your site!}

  2. This is a great lesson/project. It goes perfect with the theme of the holidays and you can practice a few skills with it. I love it. Another great idea Lorie! :-)

  3. This is so cute! Kids are so funny about their birthdays--my daughter has been "almost five" since two months after her fourth birthday!

    I really love this idea and would like to link to it on Saturday when I share some preschool resources! Let me know if that's a problem!
