I Spy Snow Globes

Drew loves snow globes.  In fact, that's all he asked Santa for:
Well, what he actually said was "snow mobile", but he meant snow globe.  We didn't correct him, so we're hoping maybe there'll be a new Polaris under the tree on Christmas morning.


He also loves I Spy books.  We have quite a few of those around here.  We even have a Christmas one.  Can You See What I See?: Night Before Christmas is the actual "Night Before Christmas" poem with Wick's signature photographs to accompany it.  There's all sorts of items to find in each Christmas themed picture, but our favorite is looking through Santa's sack of presents.

To make our snow globes we used:
  • clear plastic jars
  • assorted waterproof toys
  • laminated picture of toys
  • glitter
  • water
  • dry erase marker
Our jars used to contain peanut butter and barbecue sauce.  They are BIG.  We had a hard time finding enough stuff to fill them up which is why it didn't end up being entirely Christmas themed.  We ended up looking through the bath toys and I cut some Christmas shapes out of craft foam.  Here's what we put in:
I had the picture laminated so Drew could use a dry erase marker to check things off as we found them.
After we filled the jars with toys, we added some glitter and filled it with water.
I didn't glue the tops on the jars because we need some of that stuff back.  But he had a great time playing with it:

  1. I love those. We'll be doing those for sure. They'd probably make a decent travel toy too. I haven't seen that book before but Logan (3) loves I Spy books too so I'll have to look for it. Thanks again for collaborating!

  19. Hi- I came over from TGIF at Living Life Intentionally. I have visited your blog before though!

    Love the idea of using peanut butter jars or other large jars- whenever I have made sensory bottles I have trouble finding things small enough to fit in. I was obviously going about it the wrong way!

    I love the Ispy books and enjoyed using them in my teaching days- Can`t wait for my boys to get a bit older and get into them as well.
