Wheels on the Bus & Racing Board

My kids love the song "Wheels on the Bus".  We sing it all the time, especially in the car.  So when I saw Wheels On The Race Car at the library, I knew we had a winner.  Not surprisingly, it's the same basic song applied to race cars, "The engine in the race car goes VROOM-VROOM-VROOM..., The gas from the gas can goes GLUG-GLUG-GLUG...(sing it with me!) all around the track!" Drew loved it.  Elaina liked it too because they can mostly sing along with me while we read it.  And unlike most people, they actually like it when I sing.

While Drew was napping, I made him a racing board for his matchbox cars. We send them through the "tunnels" to see which one wins. I just covered a big piece of cardboard with wrapping paper and taped on paper-covered cardboard tubes (from paper towels and toilet paper). Talk about a cheap toy! I was concerned about being able to line up the tubes perfectly but I just eyeballed it and they mostly work just fine.  If a car starts to "crash", we just adjust the angle of the board or wiggle the tube a little.  Drew told me it was cool.  Twice. Without me asking. Totally worth the twenty minutes I spent making it.
And just so you don't think I'm neglecting my little Lainey girl, I'll tell you that we also got The Babies on the Bus.("The babies on the bus sing LA-LA-LA") which she LOVED!

I love this idea. So fun how you covered them with beautiful paper. My kids never get stuff that pretty from me! I bet he loved watching the cars go through the tubes. I also love activities that go with a book. We will have to check that one out. Thanks for sharing on Monday Madness. Hope you come back again tomorrow!
