Pizza Game

In celebration of pizza month, we read The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza).  It's a twist on the classic Little Red Hen.  This time, the little red hen is looking for the things she needs to make a pizza ( a pan, cheese, etc.)  Nobody can help her out.  Of course, when it comes time to actually eat the pizza, her neighbors are more than willing.  In this version of the story, she shares the pizza with them but they do the cleaning up.  Lots of humor in this one!

 I also made a pizza game.  I have to be honest and tell you it wasn't a big hit around here.  Things started off pretty well:

I didn't force it, but in the hopes that your kids will like it, here's what you need:

• one dice (is that die?)

One set of these for each player:

• brown circles (crust) with 1 written on them - I also added one dot to match the dice
• slightly smaller red circles (sauce) with 2 written on them - 2 dots
• slightly smaller yellow circles (cheese) with 3 - you get the idea
• toppings for 4, 5, and 6 (I used shapes but you could make actual pizza topping shapes)

He couldn't wait to get his hands on that dice!

To play:

Each player rolls the dice.  When you roll a one, you get the crust, 2 you get the sauce, etc.  If a player rolls and already has that piece, they wait for the next turn and try again (that is hard, hard, hard around here!)  For older kids, you could require that they get the 1, 2, and 3 in order first but we didn't bother with that.  The first player to assemble their entire pizza wins:

This would be cute stored in a clean pizza box and laminated, as it is not very durable.  Obviously, I won't be bothering with that.   I'd love to hear if you try it and whether or not your little ones liked it.  I thought it was going to be fun!
